“A physician always gets gratification from seeing his patients thrive. Changing Men’s lives thru this procedure has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.”
Pseudogynecomastia is a term that refers to chest protrusion consisting mainly of fat deposition. As such, it is found typically in overweight patients who come with a predominantly fat composition of the breast tissue. It is typically can be just as disturbing to patients as true gynecomastia. Pseudogynecomastia refers to male breast build up that is generally associated with buildup of fatty tissues from men that are overweight.
In reality there is a mixture of fat and glandular tissue in all men. It is very rare to find somebody that has pure pure gynecomastia (although puffy nipples are an example where this comes close) without any fatty buildup. conversely it is also very rare to have somebody developed male breast without having it also a significant component of breast tissue. Therefore the distinction between pseudogynecomastia and true gynecomastia is not as distinct and it should be viewed more as a continuum.
Liposuction plays a bigger role in the treatment of pseudo gynecomastia. The procedures typically start with a significant liposuction component especially to the lateral chest wall. But also to the breast area. Following the liposuction component the majority of patients will also undergo excisional procedures to remove the glandular build up.
The best non-surgical option is weight loss and exercise. Because of the greater fat content in pseudogynecomastia, it will respond to diet and exercise better than regular gynecomastia.
On occasion with men that have a very high fat content liposuction alone may be used. This is a rare case as most men have that mix picture of pseudo and regular gynecomastia. Removing gland at the end of the liposuction component is not a complicated step, and therefore most of the times it is performed.
The treatment of pseudo gynecomastia ranges typically from 5000 to 7000 for the surgical fees. Typically these can be done under local anesthesia. If they require general anesthesia you may have additional fees for facility and anesthesia fees. There are maybe also costs associated with the pathology if there’s anything that is required to be sent. Usually tissue is not sent to pathology in simple pseudo gynecomastia
